Nestled in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands in Tropical North Queensland, Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre (TEEC) has been inspiring young minds through unforgettable outdoor and environmental learning since 1987.
Operated by the Queensland Department of Education, we offer students hands-on experiences that connect them to nature, challenge them physically, and grow their teamwork and leadership skills.
The Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre operates from 2 sites on Lake Tinaroo. The sites are 4km apart. Onsite Accommodation for visiting Teachers and Students is in dorm accommodation at the Barron River Campus, and in tents at the Black Gully Campus.

Experience working with a team to develop outdoor and environmental education programs that align with P-12 curriculum and assessment tasks using a broad range of engagement strategies and appropriate pedagogical practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the relevant curriculum areas or whole school program to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.

About You:
The ideal candidate will have experience and qualifications in:
- Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation (or higher qualification)
- Knowledge of and experience with Education Queensland's classroom profiling and Instructional Leadership initiatives.
- Abseiling and Rock Climbing (single pitch natural and artificial)
- Remote area wilderness first aid
- Aquatic Water Rescue.
- High Ropes (linked, standalone elements)
- Crate Stack
- Canoeing
- Raft Building
- Bushwalking (class 1-4)
- Overnight Expeditions (1-3 nights)
- Orienteering
- Low Ropes
- Team/Group Challenges
- Freshwater macro invertebrate studies
- Ability to make genuine connections with community partners
- Experience – leading and training staff to implement indigenous perspectives in centre programs
- Skills to develop and train staff in areas of pedagogical practices – outdoor, experiential & student led learning
- Flexibility of days when required would be an advantage
Mandatory requirements:
- Must hold a current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers
- Current Queensland Driver Licence
- Current Recreational Marine Drivers Licence
