About the Team

The Forensic Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a specialist Program within the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service and is also part of the broader Queensland Forensic Mental Health Service. Forensic CYMHS provides assessment and treatment services to young people with mental health issues and significant behavioural disturbance that have resulted/or place them at elevated risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. The goals of the Forensic Program are to promote recovery in children and young people with mental health needs and offending behaviours, increase community safety and reduce the risk of offending. Our vision is to provide high quality clinical care and reduce service inequity to child and youth forensic mental health consumers across Queensland.

About the Role

Clinical Nurse: 

The Clinical Nurse (CN) role provides advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning and coordination skills in the clinical management of consumers with complex care needs, ensuring quality standards are met. This role works autonomously within the Healthcare Team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing and delivering of specialist forensic mental health nursing care. The CN provides clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, education and research. The role supports in management activities including portfolio responsibilities.  Travel (including overnight) may be required as the service area encompasses south of Rockhampton to the border with NSW and west to the borders with Northern Territory and South Australia.   

Senior Mental Health Clinician:

The position of Senior Mental Health Clinician will deliver advanced professional services as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to optimise psycho-social outcomes for children and young people who are involved with the justice system, with severe and complex mental health and substance use disorders. Services are provided in a variety of settings, including

Children's Courts, Watchhouses, Youth Detention centres, Child and Youth Mental Health Service and Youth Justice Service Centres. The service area encompasses south of Rockhampton to the border with NSW, and west to the borders with Northern Territory and South Australia and travel maybe required.
