QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government.  It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.

About the role

You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by:

Duties and skills involved:

  • Ensuring QBuild complies with all electrical safety and WHS legislation, regulations, codes and standards.
  • Provide expert electrical engineering advice to workers, stakeholders and executive leaders.
  • Building knowledge, skills and expertise across electrical and refrigeration mechanic staff, ensuring a high and consistent standard of practice.
  • Assisting the Regional Directors to comply with QBuild's Electrical Contractors Licence.
  • Managing electrical critical risks (as part of the ESMS) and investigating incidents/breaches/risks in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Assisting QBuild's regions with the management with ARCTIK licence.
  • Conducting regular site inspections on all electrical workers who perform electrical construction, minor and responsive works to ensure that electrical work complies with all relevant legislation, standards and codes and is of a high standard of workmanship acceptable to the department.
  • Supervising and monitoring the use of risk assessment tools and electrical apprentices.

Additional requirements (mandatory/desirable):

  • Have successfully completed (within last 3 years), or be willing to complete, the QTP competencies of the Electrical Contractors Licence training and be willing to be nominated as a QTP on the QBuild electrical contractors' licence.
  • Must hold an unrestricted current Queensland Electrical Work Licence Mechanic or Fitter/Mechanic, for at least two years. (Electrical trade qualification Cert 3)
  • Demonstrated experience in domestic and commercial electrical installations to a high level of compliance and workmanship.
  • Current Workplace Health & Safety General Safety Induction Card.
  • Current cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and low voltage rescue certificate.
  • Current, valid Queensland "C" class driver's licence or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and compliance with current work health, safety, and environmental legislation codes of practice, including knowledge, and understanding of AS/NZ3000 (The Wiring Rules) and other Australian Electrical standards, Electrical Safety Act 2002, Electrical Safety Regulations 2013, applicable Electrical Codes of Practice and Ergon/Energex connections.
