Ormeau Woods State High School is seeking a Guidance Officer to provide direct support to students for mild to moderate mental health difficulties under the Student Wellbeing Workforce. They will add to the support already available to students and become an integral part of the school's existing school-based support team. This is a temporary full-time position for a period of 9 months, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Provide counselling, advocacy, psychoeducational assessment and targeted support to students, and expert advice to parents and school staff across educational, behavioural, mental health, wellbeing and career development domains.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated case management, referrals and partnerships with families, schools and external agencies to maximise student engagement and access to education.
  • Assess student learning, developmental, behavioural and psychological needs through observation and formal assessment to inform recommendations, educational adjustments, interventions and individualised support plans.
  • Support schools in the implementation of student protection, behaviour support, gifted education, risk management, transition planning and intensive behaviour support, including responses to critical incidents and alternative education pathways.
  • Uphold ethical and legal responsibilities through professional record keeping, confidentiality and information sharing, while engaging in ongoing professional development and providing training and guidance to staff, parents and school communities.
