The Senior Finance Officer role provides high quality management accounting services and support for QAS, ensuring accurate, timely and relevant financial advice and reporting services are delivered to stakeholders and clients across the organisation and externally.
The role supports the Executive Manager, Management Accounting in the preparation of the QAS forward estimates, budgets and forecasts and delivery of effective financial management services to influence decisions and drive financial performance and improvement, supporting the achievement of strategic business outcomes for the QAS.

- Contribute to the development and delivery of management accounting services including budgeting, financial management, financial trend and performance analysis, and reporting.
- Contribute to financial management requirements and processes in accordance with the annual state budget process, including the preparation of relevant information for budget paper development.
- Assist with the cash flowing of annual budgets and the upload of annual budgets to SAP.
- Review and endorse journals for various expense and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in the sourcing and preparation of information for Department, Ministerial, Queensland Treasury and Cabinet Budget Review Committee (CBRC) budget submissions, forward estimates, financial statements, mid-year review, funding and project information, special studies, and ad hoc information as required.
- Provide specialist expertise and advice for regional finance and business unit staff and advise and co-ordinate responses on management accounting and general financial management activities, ensuring compliance with applicable financial legislation, accounting standards, financial policies and practices.
- Provide support to senior management, cost centre managers and other divisional and QAS staff to interpret, analyse, and assess the impact of strategic, project, operational, funding, and other decisions on performance.
- Contribute to system, process, and internal control reviews to ensure budget integrity for the QAS is maintained.
- Assist and advise on corporate governance, audit and internal control issues relating to the QAS.
- Contribute to business and financial system functional requirements, deployment, and support activities.
- Develop and maintain constructive, collaborative working relationships with clients and stakeholders through participation in meetings and maintaining frequent communication, in order to understand and resolve emergent financial issues.
- Undertake research and prepare high quality reports, submissions, correspondence, and briefing notes for QAS management on a range of management accounting issues and impacts.
- Identify, develop, and implement business improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of management accounting services.
- Assist in the provision of appropriate financial management training to cost centre managers and other divisional and QAS staff where required.
- As a member of the QAS Finance Branch undertake such other tasks, roles, or projects as necessary for the professional functioning of the team and the delivery of its services with good internal control and appropriate corporate governance and providing a high level of customer service. This may be self-initiated or at the request of another team member.
