About the Role

As a Mechanical Inspector with the QBCC in HVAC-R, you'll play a key role in keeping the public safe, improving building performance, and helping the industry do better. Your work goes beyond just inspecting - it's about guiding licensees, promoting best practices, and encouraging continuous improvements in the mechanical services sector. You'll inspect HVAC and mechanical systems on homes, workplaces, and industrial sites to ensure they meet laws, safety standards, and licensing rules. You'll give practical advice to licensees, educate them about compliance, and share industry knowledge. You'll also identify risks or issues, prepare reports, and support enforcement when needed. Working with colleagues and industry stakeholders, you'll help develop resources and promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and compliance across the industry.

This position is based in Brisbane CBD and flexible work arrangements can be considered upon application, including working remotely at a regional QBCC office subject to availability.  If working from a regional office, regular travel to the Brisbane office may be required.

What You'll Bring

Here's what you should bring to the role: strong technical knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems, including how they're installed and how they perform. You need to be good at reading mechanical drawings, specs, National Construction Codes and Australian Standards. Clear communication skills are important to teach, influence, and work well with licensees. You should have good judgment to make fair, evidence-based compliance decisions, and a collaborative attitude that values safety and integrity. A relevant trade qualification background in mechanical services with QBCC, HVAC, refrigeration, or building services is essential.  Experience with inspections, compliance, or regulation is a plus.

Why This Role Matters

Mechanical services play a vital role in building safety, energy efficiency, and occupant wellbeing. As a regulator, you will help ensure these systems are installed safely and correctly - protecting the community while supporting industry to meet its obligations. Your work will directly influence industry standards, improve practitioner capability, and contribute to a safer built environment for all.

What's In It for You
