The WDIA SCAN Coordinator coordinates the effective functioning of participants within the SCAN team system. You work within the Framework for Practice (values, principles, practice tools, processes and core skills) providing a lens through which to view and guide professional practice within a multidisciplinary team environment. You have knowledge and understanding of and/or experience in assessment and casework intervention with individuals and families who have complex needs and you understand the theoretical perspectives that relate to child protection practice, including the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Your responsibilities 

As a Scan Coordinator you will: 

  • Coordinate functioning of the SCAN team meeting in a manner that enables effective, professional discussion of referrals, reviews, and recommendations responsive to the child's protection needs.  
  • Provide consultation, advice and support to SCAN core members, government agencies and other service providers to ensure the SCAN Team meeting processes are facilitated in accordance with legislative, policy and procedural requirements, including missing child protocols.  
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop and sustain enduring collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders which includes Department of Education; Queensland Health; Queensland Police Service; and other integral agencies to enhance cross-sector collaboration to increase the safety and care of children referred to the SCAN Team. Escalation of issues where required. This includes providing professional advice about SCAN team processes, and support to SCAN team members and invited stakeholders attending SCAN Meetings  
  • Demonstrate high level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to consult, influence practice and identify gaps across multiagency service delivery to ensure the safety of children referred to SCAN is increased through responses, including projects that meets regional need and priorities.  
  • Complete local SCAN team data and analysis with SCAN Team to complete quarterly report.  Maintain accurate SCAN team records consistent with statutory requirements and the administrative requirements of the SCAN team system. Support partner agencies through consultation and advice in the provision of information exchange.  
  • Draw on professional practice experience in relevant child protection fields to provide coaching and mentoring to new and less experienced SCAN Coordinators and SCAN Administrators, and broader child safety staff to develop their skills and knowledge of the SCAN team system as required  
  • Actively participate and contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement strategies.  
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs in relation to SCAN team system operations.  

Your mandatory requirements 

  • It is mandatory to have a Blue Card (a current Working with Children Clearance issued by Blue Card Services) before you commence employment in this role. It is recommended that you lodge an application for a blue card as soon as possible to avoid any delays in commencement should you be offered a position with the department.  
  • Service Support Officers must hold a relevant qualification from an accredited Australian tertiary institution, or a comparable overseas qualification. There are 2 qualification pathways Qualifications - CSO careers (families.qld.gov.au).
