We are seeking a Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator with experience in implementing and maintaining Health, Safety and Wellbeing at Yarrabah State School and Balaclava State School.

The position will be based at Yarrabah State School, located approximately 1 hour (57 km south-east) from Cairns, over the Murray Prior Range.

Yarrabah State School is a recognised Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Education, catering to students from Pre-prep to Year 10 across three campuses in the Yarrabah community, Far North Queensland. About the Role

The Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator will work across Yarrabah State School and Balaclava State School, with the majority of work based at Yarrabah State School.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing timely and confidential advice to school leadership and staff on health, safety, and wellbeing matters.
  • Collaborating with regional and corporate teams to strengthen local practices and ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System (HSWMS).
  • Supporting ill or injured staff through early intervention, rehabilitation, and return-to-work processes.
  • Facilitating training, induction, and awareness activities to promote safe workplaces and foster a positive safety culture.
  • Coordinating incident reporting, audits, and emergency preparedness to ensure effective risk management.

This role would suit a proactive individual with a passion for workplace health and safety, who thrives in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment.
