About the Team

The CHQ MHIDD team is one of 12 new IDD MH consultation-liaison teams funded under the Better Care Together: A plan for Queensland's state-funded mental health, alcohol and other drug services to 2027 initiative.

The CHQ MHIDD team within CYMHS, CHQ HHS provides a service response for individuals with clinical complexity due to mental illness and co-occurring Intellectual Disability and Developmental Disability and their family and carers. The CHQ MHIDD service provides specialised clinical support using a consultation liaison model to offer assessment, management advice, and support for capacity building. It ensures

  • earlier access to specialist clinicians for assessment and advice focussed on preventing the development of chronic mental health and wellbeing issues.
  • the avoidance of hospital admissions, where appropriate.

About the Role

This position will:

  • Demonstrate clinical leadership and advocacy within the multidisciplinary CHQ MHIDD team for the mental health needs of children, young people, and their carers with intellectual and developmental disorders, and with relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct developmental paediatric assessments of children and adolescents, and their families, referred to the CHQ MHIDD team.
  • Conduct developmental paediatric reviews of children and adolescents engaged with CHQ MHIDD.
  • Conduct second opinions for children and adolescents, as required.
