The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) is at the forefront of driving sustainable growth across Queensland. Our mission is to manage water resources responsibly and empower councils to support and grow Queensland communities. With over 700 dedicated professionals across Brisbane and regional offices, we work tirelessly to ensure that Queensland's communities, businesses, and water resources thrive.

The Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment (OGIA) is an independent office for undertaking cumulative assessment and management of groundwater, and subsidence, impacts from coal seam gas and mining development in Queensland since 2010 (www.ogia.water.qld.gov.au). OGIA is a unique workplace, as it:

  • undertakes the majority of work in-house including scientific investigations and conceptualisation as well as groundwater, geological and geomechanical modelling supported by data science and remote sensing techniques.
  • has a stable and secure funding arrangement underpinned by an industry levy.
  • pursues need based scientific assessments through cutting edge research.
  • directly links its impact assessments to statutory strategies for proactive management.
  • focuses on the integration of highly detailed geoscientific datasets and information to inform regional and cumulative assessments of impact at catchment and geological basin scales.
  • provides opportunities for peer-based learning from a highly technical team comprised of industry leading experts.

To service its expanding functions, OGIA is now seeking to further strengthen its core team of expertise in hydrogeology, geosciences, modelling (groundwater, geological and geomechanical), data sciences, environmental sciences, remote sensing and surveying.

Operating within OGIA, this particular position will support and lead multi-disciplinary projects and investigations that underpin subsurface impact assessments from coal seam gas (CSG) and mining development in Queensland.
