About the role

The Technical Support Officer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the quality and compliance of building work across Queensland, combining hands‑on site inspections with expert guidance to industry stakeholders. In this dynamic role, you'll investigate active building sites, issue reports and regulatory notices, and provide authoritative advice on the National Construction Code, Australian Standards, and relevant legislation. You'll manage a diverse caseload, contribute to industry‑wide technical strategies, support field audits, and help educate builders and contractors, all while preparing high‑quality technical reports for regulatory and tribunal proceedings. This position suits someone who thrives on problem‑solving, enjoys engaging with industry professionals, and is motivated by improving standards within Queensland's construction sector. If you're motivated by meaningful work in a dynamic and impactful environment, this is your opportunity to make a real difference.

While this role is based in the Brisbane CBD, you can also choose to work from our Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast office, with flexible arrangements considered during the application process. Hybrid work is supported, but regular in‑person attendance at the office remains an important part of the role.

*Please refer to the Position Description for the Key Outcomes and Accountabilities and Candidate Attributes for this role*

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply current building standards, practices, legislation, and codes, supported by strong research skills to clearly communicate regulatory requirements to stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to consult, negotiate, and build effective working relationships within the building sector.
  • High‑level investigative, analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with capability to manage technically complex cases in a regulatory environment.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Building Surveying (or currently completing a Bachelor of Building Surveying & Certification)
  • Eligible for (or hold) a Building Certifier Level 3 Licence in Queensland
  • Possess a current Queensland Class C driver's licence

Why Join QBCC?

At QBCC, you'll be part of a purpose‑driven organisation where your work matters. You will work alongside dedicated professionals who value integrity, collaboration and learning. You'll have opportunities to grow while making a real contribution to shaping the QBCC's future and outcomes for our stakeholders.

We also have:

  • Generous 12.75% superannuation contribution with the option to salary sacrifice
  • Access to leave entitlements (with 17.5% leave loading) and accrual of flex time
