We are seeking a Principal (level 1) to lead our school with vision, integrity and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. As Principal, you will inspire a shared, future-focused educational vision that promotes high expectations and improved outcomes for every student.

This is a temporary full-time position until 26 June 2026, unless otherwise determined. This is an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic and collaborative leader dedicated to continuous growth and innovation in education.

About Us:

Oakenden State School is situated in a rural setting approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Mackay and 28 kilometres northwest of Sarina in the Eton-Homebush area. The school has served the Oakenden community since 1910. The community of Oakenden consists of approximately 80 people, living up to a distance of about 6 kilometres from the school. Cane farming and cattle are the primary occupations.

At Oakenden State School multi-age grouping is a necessity but we consider it an advantage for our students as they foster an environment wherein each student is valued as an individual. I am proud of our school and recommend my staff to you. Our teachers and teacher aides are dedicated, hardworking and most importantly caring professionals who go out of their way to ensure your child receives the high quality educational experience we can offer.

Community involvement is a key foundation to the operation of our small school and achieving our mission of  'Educating the Whole Child in Preparation for the Future'.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Lead the school community to co-create and commit to a shared, future-focused vision that delivers high-quality learning outcomes for every student.
  • Model ethical, values-based leadership and embed socially just practices in all aspects of school life.
  • Set and maintain high expectations for student achievement and staff performance, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Engage in lifelong learning and continuous professional development while understanding and applying relevant legislation and policy.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, government agencies, community groups, and industry, and strategically manage resources to achieve school goals.
