Role details
The Mackay Base Hospital Clinical Excellence Unit is seeking applications for a Nurse Educator (General Surgical) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity
The Nurse Educator is an employee who is a registered nurse who:
- Is appointed to an advanced practice nursing and/or position; and
- Demonstrates a specialised clinical expertise and/or specialised skill set.
Classification may include but is not limited to:
- Responsibility for explicit professional portfolio content and context expertise.
- Expertise in the provision of direct care and/or support of systems and/or education and/or professional leadership.
- Consultation and provision of professional advice.
- Responsibility for a cohort of staff reporting to the position. and/or education and research advice.
- Contemporary nurse education leadership in the provision of mandatory training, ongoing professional education and developing the clinical competencies of less experienced staff necessary to ensure professional standards are maintained and safe, effective, ethical and efficient clinical services are delivered.
- Collaborative practice as part of the leadership team for Surgical services and Division of Perioperative and Ambulatory care Services.
- Well-developed communication skills: interpersonal, verbal, written and computer literacy including programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated high level of expertise in the field of surgical management and emergencies.
- Ability to facility the Performance Appraisal & Development plan for staff in conjunction with the nursing leadership team.

The Clinical Excellence Unit at MHHS provides support and advice across all aspects of Service Delivery to maximize opportunities for continuous improvement that reflect contemporary practice that enhance opportunity for exceptional consumer outcomes. This is achieved through shared resources working together to provide Education, Quality, Patient Safety, Infection Control, Clinical and Service Governance.
Our objective is to provide educational leadership, fostering and developing lifelong learning opportunities and skills assessment that promote and ensure best practice across the MHHS.
The General Surgical Unit is a fast-paced, high-functioning 28 bed ward providing care to patients who require and are recovering from surgical procedures. The ward utilises a multidisciplinary approach aims to provide a high standard of patient-focused care through assessment, planning, early intervention and evaluation of acute surgical problems to support people in achieving optimal health outcomes.
