Key Details:
In this role you will represent clients in criminal law matters, including preparing cases, instructing counsel, and appearing in court, primarily in the Magistrates Court. You will provide duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children's Courts, offer legal advice to clients and the public, and support team members with legal enquiries. You'll work both independently and with guidance from senior practitioners, contribute to policy and law reform submissions, build strong networks with stakeholders, and play an active role in team planning while suggesting ways to improve work practices.
About you
You are an experienced practitioner able to independently represent clients and demonstrate knowledge of the practice and procedure of criminal law and ethical standards. You communicate effectively and use the principles of trauma informed practice to engage clients with complex needs.
You are a results-driven individual who excels at building and maintaining positive relationships, takes accountability for delivering high-quality services, and is committed to continuous improvement. With integrity at the core of your decision-making, you exercise sound judgement and know when to seek guidance or escalate issues. You embrace feedback and proactively seek development opportunities, striving to enhance both your personal and professional outcomes.
