Your opportunity
Join a high‑performing team shaping Queensland's future through large‑scale development. At Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), you'll help unlock land and deliver transformational projects that support up to one million new homes by 2044 and enable world‑class venues for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
EDQ is the Queensland Government's land use planning and development agency, working at pace with industry, local government and communities to deliver housing, jobs, infrastructure and liveable places where they're needed most.
We focus on service excellence, cut red tape and act decisively - partnering seamlessly across the public and private sectors to achieve high‑quality, enduring outcomes for Queenslanders.
As a Principal Lawyer, you will provide strategic, high‑impact legal advice on complex and commercially significant property and development matters. Your work will directly support major projects that make a lasting difference to Queensland's economy, communities and built environment.
Your contribution
This role offers a fast‑paced, stimulating environment with the opportunity to deliver high‑quality work on matters of state significance. As a Principal Lawyer, you will provide timely, practical and solutions‑focused legal advice to a diverse client base, including the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Executive Officer, the Minister, senior managers and EDQ officers.
Your work will span advice on the Economic Development Act 2012 and the powers of the Minister for Economic Development Queensland, as well as the planning and delivery of complex property development projects such as urban precincts, residential communities, industrial developments, and social and affordable housing initiatives. You will draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial and property agreements, including land sale contracts, development agreements, leases, licences, funding agreements and associated instruments.
You will work closely with EDQ's Housing Supply and Delivery and Industrial Development project teams, lead legal negotiations where required, manage external legal providers to ensure value for money, and identify emerging legal risks and opportunities. You will also contribute to building organisational capability by strengthening EDQ's understanding of relevant legislative and governance frameworks and supporting continuous improvement and change.
Applications will remain current for 12 months.
