Senior Heritage Officer

Play a key role in protecting Queensland’s rich cultural heritage. As a Senior Heritage Officer (PO3) in the Heritage unit, within the Planning and Heritage branch, you will contribute to the assessment and management of places on the Queensland Heritage Register. You will provide expert heritage advice, undertake research and assessments, prepare high-quality recommendations and briefings, and work collaboratively with the Queensland Heritage Council, government agencies, local government, industry and community stakeholders.

In this role, you will contribute to the statutory assessment of applications for entry to, or removal from, the Queensland Heritage Register. You will research and assess heritage values, prepare recommendations and advice for the Queensland Heritage Council, and support informed decision making through high quality reports, briefings and correspondence. You will also contribute to strategic projects, heritage conservation policy, and the maintenance of accurate and current heritage register information.

You will work closely with colleagues in multi-disciplinary teams and engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including other government agencies, local governments, industry and the community. The role requires strong analytical capability, clear written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex statutory environment.

Your contribution 
As a Senior Heritage Officer, you will undertake research and assessments of heritage values and development impacts on places entered in the Queensland Heritage Register, and prepare high-quality recommendations, reports, submissions and briefings for the Queensland Heritage Council, senior officers and Ministers. You will provide clear, evidence-based advice on heritage policy, conservation processes and relevant legislation, contribute to strategic heritage projects, and ensure the accuracy and currency of heritage register information. You will also build and maintain constructive working relationships with stakeholders and actively contribute to a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace.
