As a Principal Project Officer (Finance and Procurement), you’ll lead financial management for a significant operational and capital portfolio supporting Queensland’s abandoned mines program and non commercial assets. You’ll apply advanced financial, budgeting, procurement and contract management skills to guide decision making, strengthen performance and support effective project delivery across the business unit.

The Georesources division capitalises on Queensland’s minerals, coal, petroleum and gas resources. Mining is the number one wealth generating sector in the state and the work done in this division plays a key role in regulating the resources sector, while also supporting industry development and sector growth. As a Principal Project Officer (Finance and Procurement), you will play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality financial management across a large and complex operational and capital portfolio supporting Queensland's abandoned mines program and non‑commercial assets. Operating within Technical Services, you will contribute to effective investment decisions while maintaining strong relationships. In this role, you will deliver financial evaluation and monitoring, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, standards and practices.

You will lead the budget process, provide strategic financial analysis, and prepare financial reports, funding submissions and briefings to support decision‑making. You will also manage procurement activities from planning through to contract award, exercising appropriate delegations and supporting contract management for engineering, construction, economic, environmental and planning services. Success in the role includes delivering accurate and timely financial insights, maintaining strong governance, and contributing to capability uplift by mentoring others.

  • A copy of your current resume (2-3 pages recommended), detailing your previous work, voluntary or relevant experience, and the contact details for two referees who have personally observed you displaying the key duties, responsibilities and capabilities of this role within the last two years, plus
  • A brief cover letter (1-2 pages) introducing yourself to the panel and showcasing your ‘About you' skills, and capabilities including:
    • How your skills and experience align with the financial management requirements of the role, including project controls and reporting.
    • Examples of your involvement in procurement or contract management, including your approach to working within government or similar frameworks.
    • How you build effective relationships with project managers and Directors.
