Your new role:
As Principal Data Scientist, you will lead the design and delivery of advanced analytics solutions that strengthen decision-making and improve healthcare outcomes across the service. You will:
- Lead end-to-end data science workflows – from data ingestion and feature engineering through to model development, deployment and optimisation.
- Develop and implement advanced machine learning, statistical and predictive analytics solutions integrated into clinical and business processes.
- Collaborate with clinical and executive stakeholders to define requirements and deliver dashboards, reports and analytic products aligned to customer needs.
- Mentor team members and champion best practice data science methodologies, governance and standards across the organisation.
About you:
You are an experienced and strategic data science leader who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about using data to improve health system performance. You have:
- A tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded).
- Strong expertise in machine learning, statistical modelling, data transformation and working with large, disparate datasets using tools such as Python, R and SQL.
- Proven ability to design and deliver BI dashboards and analytic products (experience with Qlik or Power BI highly regarded).
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex data insights into meaningful outcomes for clinicians and executives.

About the Data and Analytics Service
The Data & Analytics service at Metro South Health, within the Digital Health and Informatics division, plays a pivotal role in supporting evidence-based decision-making across the health network. By leveraging advanced data management, analysis, and reporting capabilities, the team transforms complex healthcare data into actionable insights that enhance patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and strategic planning. This service collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and research teams to ensure timely access to high-quality data, promote data-driven innovation, and support continuous improvement initiatives across Metro South Health.
