Lead Dietitian

The Lead Dietitian is a temporary project position created to review and update the state-wide prisoner menu and Queensland Corrective Services food services’ policy, procedures and food safety plans.
The primary accountabilities of the Lead Dietician include:
• Review and update the state-wide prisoner menu to ensure a cost-effective food and nutrition service is delivered to prisoners that meets contemporary standards, and provides dietarily sufficient, nutritionally balanced meals.
• Review individual facilities’ food safety plans and make recommendations for improvements based on contemporary evidence and industry best practice.
• Provide expert, high level strategic advice on food policy, service delivery, planning and issues impacting the Department.
• Develop and manage collaborative partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.

About the Role -
The Lead Dietitian is a temporary project position created to review and update the state-wide prisoner menu and Queensland Corrective Services food services' policy, procedures and food safety plans. Custodial Operations is based in Northbank Plaza, Brisbane City, but the role will also require travel to correctional facilities across the State.
The primary accountabilities of the Lead Dietician include:
• Review and update the state-wide prisoner menu to ensure a cost-effective food and nutrition service is delivered to prisoners that meets contemporary standards, and provides dietarily sufficient, nutritionally balanced meals.
• Review individual facilities' food safety plans and make recommendations for improvements based on contemporary evidence and industry best practice.
• Provide advanced level judgement and clinical assessment regarding the food provided to all prisoners in QCS custody.
• Provide timely briefings and reports on emerging issues to senior and executive leadership.
• Design, implement and manage systems that support risk mitigation and management through a quality assurance framework and governance process.
• Provide expert, high level strategic advice on food policy, service delivery, planning and issues impacting the Department.
• Develop and manage collaborative partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders and represent the Department at external stakeholder forums as required.
• Support a culture of continuous business improvement in service delivery and the development of innovative solutions whilst maintaining sensitivity to inter-agency and intra-agency issues.
Role suitability -
This role is a Team leader under the Leadership Competencies for Queensland framework.
Within the context of the role accountabilities described in About the Role, the most suitable applicant will demonstrate their applied knowledge, skills and experiences against these essential role requirements of the Team leader leadership stream:
• Specialist knowledge and experience in nutrition and dietetics as it applies to contemporary, best practice food services within a correctional or similar environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage and negotiate with relevant internal and external stakeholders, who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues within a challenging environment.
• Demonstrated high level ability to work effectively and flexibly in an environment with the potential for high levels of political and public scrutiny.
• Proven ability to build and manage ongoing working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, coordinate activities and meet deadlines.
Other conditions and requirements -
• Mandatory qualification/s: Possession of a recognised tertiary qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics, and eligibility for full membership with the Dietitians Australia (DA), and maintenance of Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) status.
• Non-mandatory qualifications/requirements: While not mandatory, a postgraduate qualification consistent with a senior leadership role is highly desirable.
• License to operate vehicle: This position may require the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license to operate this vehicle is required.
• Travel: Travel to correctional facilities throughout the State may be required as part of this position.
