An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated educator to join the leadership team as Head of Department - English at Oakey State High School for a period of six (6) months, from Term 2, unless otherwise determined. This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.
We are seeking an outstanding educational leader with vision and drive to lead our English faculty and strengthen whole-school teaching and learning practices, empowering students to reach their full potential.

Your Opportunity
Oakey State High School is a regional secondary school located in Oakey, approximately 20 minutes north-west of Toowoomba (30 kilometere), delivering quality learning and strong student support within a connected rural community.
About the Role
As the Head of Department - English, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and support a team of English teachers to deliver high-quality curriculum, learning and assessment by supporting students to reach their learning potential and maximise their engagement.
- Set high standards for staff and student performance by fostering a culture of professional growth, reflective practice, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in weekly leadership team meetings and conduct regular faculty meetings.
- Mentor early career teachers in the faculty and provide support to others when required.
- Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the English department to achieve faculty goals.
- Plan, organise and work with the administration team to deliver assessment blocks.
- Lead the whole-school New and Beginning Teacher program including the induction of new staff.
- Facilitate the QCT Provisional to Full Registration process.
