Join the Adult Acute Inpatient Unit at Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Services as an Advanced Recreation Officer, where you will design and deliver engaging recreational and diversional therapy programs that support the recovery, wellbeing and social connection of mental health consumers.

Your new role:

This role is responsible for designing and delivering recreational and diversional therapy programs that support the recovery, wellbeing and social engagement of consumers within an acute mental health inpatient environment.

• Plan, implement and evaluate a diverse program of recreational, social and diversional activities that support the physical and mental wellbeing of inpatient consumers.
• Work collaboratively with consumers, carers, nursing and allied health staff to develop person-centred, culturally sensitive recreation programs that meet individual needs.
• Supervise and support consumers participating in recreational and leisure activities, ensuring safety and a therapeutic environment.

About you:

You are a motivated and compassionate professional who understands the role of recreation in supporting mental health recovery and can deliver engaging, consumer-focused programs in a clinical environment.

• Demonstrated ability to assess individual needs, interests and abilities to design and deliver effective recreation or diversional therapy programs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with consumers, families, multidisciplinary teams and community organisations.
• Highly organised and able to work both autonomously and collaboratively, with strong planning, time management and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, mental health service frameworks, relevant legislation and clinical information systems.
