About the role
- Contribute to activities and initiatives that are aimed towards improving the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- Facilitate cultural liaison and advocacy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, health services and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate and equitable cultural support, guidance and advocacy is delivered.
- Contribute to the implementation of the Metro North Health Equity agenda as it relates to Community and Oral Health.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- High level knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols and history, as well as demonstrated experience in engaging and working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Liaise, engage and build positive connections and purposeful culturally safe and appropriate relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to support and facilitate their relationship with COH services, Metro North Health facilities and directorates.
- Assist COH teams to implement specific cultural gathering and feedback tools to improve client and patient communication that supports informed decision making and improved understanding of care.
- Develop and/actively participate in culturally appropriate community engagement and consultation processes, including but not limited to the COH Yarning Circle.
