Bouldercombe State School will serve as the base school for this HOSES position, with the role supporting a cluster of nearby schools including Marmor State School, Ridgelands State School, Stanwell State School and Bajool State School.

This arrangement reflects the strong collaborative culture across our small schools, enabling the HOSES to work closely with school leaders, teachers and support staff to strengthen inclusive practices and support the diverse learning needs of students across the cluster.

The Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) provides leadership and support for inclusive education practices across the cluster of schools.

The role works collaboratively with principals, teachers and support staff to support students with disability and diverse learning needs, including leading case management processes and supporting the development and implementation of personalised learning and curriculum adjustments.

The HOSES also builds staff capability through coaching, collaboration and professional learning, while liaising with families and external agencies to support positive student outcomes and ensure schools meet departmental requirements relating to inclusive education and reasonable adjustments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program.
  • Lead and manage the Special Education Program and/or Early Childhood Development Program to provide advice to classroom teachers for students with disability as needed.
  • Provide high quality advice to the school leadership team, classroom teachers and other school staff to develop, plan and implement effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.
  • Coordinate and provide intensive targeted teaching for students requiring intervention.
