Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a Project Officer, AO5 to join the team on a Temporary basis until 27/11/2026 with the possibility of extension.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.
This Project Officer position leads and contributes to projects that support sustainable visitor use across Queensland's protected areas as part of the Reef Joint Field Management Program for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. The program is jointly funded and managed by the Australian and Queensland Governments and delivers on-ground activities across the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park and island national parks within the World Heritage Area. The position focuses on delivering high-impact cultural resource and capital works projects, requiring strong collaboration in a fast-paced team environment with competing priorities and tight timeframes. The role also uses project management systems such as ADAPTVE and Loc8 to track proposals and provide regular project progress reporting.
Role focus:
• Lead and contribute to projects that support sustainable visitor use across Queensland's protected areas as part of the Reef Joint Field Management Program for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
• Oversee the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures and business processes for commercial authorities across QPWS&P terrestrial and marine estates, including the management of fees and returns.
• Deliver accurate advice and maintain strong relationships with regional teams, government agencies, authority applicants and holders, local governments and Traditional Owners and their representative bodies.
• Analyse information and prepare reports, briefings and submissions while fostering a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, formal qualifications in Project Management would be highly regarded.
