This role will work predominately in historic child abuse matters and other matters where necessary to have a full case load.
Your key responsibilities

Litigation
- Conduct basic litigation under supervision in compliance with court/tribunal rules.
- Prepare simple pleadings and assist in evidence gathering.
- Explore options for early resolution in straightforward disputes under professional supervision.
Legal advice
- Provide advice on standard legal matters with general guidance requiring professional expertise in one or more areas of law.
- Analyse and apply the relevant law to the facts, while identifying policy, probity and operational considerations.
- Suggest practical options and risk management strategies.
- Ensure legal work is completed to a high standard, and in a timely and cost effective manner.
Legal drafting
- Adapt precedents to draft legally effective documents with general guidance in one or more areas of law.
- Draft documents that logically meet the requirements of standard transactions.
- Assist clients in drafting and reviewing documents to reduce risk.
Statutory interpretation
- Identify and solve straightforward interpretation issues under general guidance.
- Use extrinsic materials consistently to resolve routine statutory interpretation questions.
- Apply relevant legislation to ensure accurate interpretation of provisions.
Legal research
- Conduct efficient, targeted research using authoritative sources under general guidance.
- Apply legal professional expertise in one or more areas of law.
- Analyse results to refine research direction.
- Present accurate, reliable research findings in standard, usable formats.
Client relationships
- Manage straightforward client interactions independently.
- Escalate sensitive issues appropriately to senior staff.
- Begin to apply commercial awareness in client communications.
Practice management
- Manage files for straightforward matters with routine supervision.
- Maintain accurate billing records and time entries.
- Escalate identified risks to supervising staff.
- Contribute to precedent and template use by identifying improvements or inconsistencies.
