The purpose of this role is to facilitate communication and liaison between the Office of the Minister for the Environment and Tourism, Minister for Science and Innovation and the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI). In delivering on this purpose the position will support the development and monitoring of efficient and effective administrative systems between the Minister’s Office and the department to ensure timely and quality communication and liaison occurs between all areas.

As the Principal Departmental Liaison Officer, you will:
• Provide quality communication and liaison support services between the Office of the Minister and DETSI, ensuring that they are provided with accurate, complete and timely information to enable them to deal with current and emerging issues that are impacting on the portfolio.
• Develop and maintain efficient and effective systems to support the flow of information between the Office of the Minister and DETSI, supported by an effective network of officers both within the department and across government who may be called upon to compile responses within short timeframes.
• Respond to members of Parliament, Parliamentary staff, non-government service providers and members of the public in a diplomatic, prompt and appropriate manner and initiate referrals to the department where necessary and investigate and provide advice in response to inquiries/complaints on sensitive and confidential departmental issues.
• Develop and maintain effective networks to ensure timely and quality responses to requests from the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and correspondence addressed to the Premier.
• Undertake research and provide advice to the Director-General and Office of the Minister on relevant departmental activities and prepare briefings, reports and other submissions for the Director-General and the Minister on complex and sensitive departmental issues.
• Effectively lead and manage the Departmental Liaison Officer team, in accordance with departmental policy and procedure, delegating responsibilities where appropriate and managing such delegations.
• Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace that is free from bullying, discrimination and harassment.

What you need for this role:
• You will possess the ability to acquire a developed understanding of departmental policy issues, functions, legislation, procedures and protocols governing communication process in a government context.
• You will demonstrate high level skill and ability to undertake research, analysis and problem solving to formulate innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
• You will have proven, highly developed interpersonal, communication and consultative skills that result in - successful negotiation and the ability to influence management and build and maintain successful relationships, high quality advisory and support services and preparation of complex reports, briefing notes and correspondence.
• You will model ethical practice and conduct in your interactions, take personal responsibility for meeting objectives and progressing work and show initiative and proactively step in and do what is required.
• Demonstrate how you can support our commitment to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion.

Qualifications:
There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, experience in a similar role would be highly regarded.
