We're excited to welcome a Social Worker to the 5D Cancer Care ward at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The Inpatient Cancer Care Social Worker provides specialist psychosocial support to patients and families throughout the cancer treatment journey. The role focuses on assisting individuals to adjust to a cancer diagnosis and disease progression, manage anxiety and emotional distress, address financial and accommodation challenges related to treatment, and navigate complex care pathways. Interventions commonly include carer support, advanced care planning, advocacy, counselling, brief or single-session therapeutic work, multidisciplinary family meetings, discharge planning, end of life and bereavement support. Practice reflects the unique trajectory of cancer care—including prolonged treatment, survivorship, and potential recurrence—and prioritises sustained psychosocial engagement across the inpatient admission.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Demonstrate competent knowledge, expertise and skill in the provision of [discipline] services commensurate with level of experience in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, existing evidence-based practice and established clinical protocols. For complex or novel cases, you will seek direction from clinical seniors as appropriate.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and patient records in line with Departmental, Unit and Health Service procedures, and contribute to the maintenance of accurate and timely information systems (statistics collection, quality data). Ensure that time spent across clinical and non-clinical work is in keeping with assigned requirements.
• Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient/client care, including the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the work environment.

Remuneration based pro rata on equivalent full time value up to $132 567 p.a., comprising salary rates: $39.86 - $58.59 p.h. employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (HP3) (Fixed term temporary part time position, 30.4 hrs p.f. for 11 months).
