About your role

The role of the Clinical Midwife- Community Midwife Caseload- Midwifery Group Practice is to provide primary care midwifery care for a caseload of up to 40 women per year, in collaboration with the multi-professional team.

Care is provided across the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period up to 6 weeks. The Clinical Midwife Community Midwife Caseload will provide caseload midwifery care with support from the Ingham Midwifery Group practice team of Midwives, ensuring the provision of best practice, collaboration and quality patient care for women and their families.

The Clinical Midwife provides leadership to the team of Midwives.

Your Duties

  • Deliver continuity of care across pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal periods
  • Collaborate with Townsville University Hospital Maternity Service
  • Lead and support the Ingham Midwifery Group Practice team
  • Provide care aligned with Clinical Service Capability Framework

Skills and Experience

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Midwifery/Diploma of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Desirable: Endorsed Midwife Advanced Scope of Practice or working towards.
  • Successful applicant will be required to complete Townsville University Hospital mandatory competencies and Maternity Support Unit mandatory competencies, Examination of the Newborn package and Water Immersion in Labour package, and Extended Practice Authority – ‘Midwives' within three months of commencement.
  • Demonstrates clinical skills in intravenous cannulation, water immersion in labour and waterbirth, perineal suturing and speculum examination. If not competent in these skills must be willing to undertake the necessary training within six months of commencement.
  • On call / Shift Workers: Appointees will be required work on call and will benefit from an annualised salary. Appointees will be required to work under the Midwifery Model of Care – Continuity of care caseload model, working within the local agreement as per Nursing and Midwifery Award which includes an annualized salary with 35% loading and six (6) weeks recreation leave.
