About the College:
Tagai State College is unique and unlike any other school. Our 17 school campuses are spread across 15 islands and 48,000 square kilometres of beautiful ocean.
We provide education from kindergarten through to Year 12. We have a specific focus on delivering excellence across two key areas of study, Torres Strait Arts, Language & Culture (Dance, Music and Visual Arts) and Land and Sea Sciences.
In partnership with the Torres Strait Nation, Tagai State College is committed to ensuring every student is challenged and supported to be proud learners who are responsible, safe and respectful. Separate primary and secondary campuses are located on Thursday Island.
The remaining 15 primary campuses are on islands a short ferry, plane or helicopter ride from Thursday Island or Horn Island.
Your opportunity:
As the Business Manager you will manage the delivery of a range of corporate services, support educational management activities and lead the development of systemic change by actively supporting the school management team and school community.
You will oversee the delivery of administrative, financial and human resources support, including the supervision of lower level school support staff and influencing stakeholders on sensitive issues.
Responsibilities include:
- Operating autonomously in the provision of business services to the school, in an environment that at times exhibits a degree of complexity and frequently requires the interpretation of information and adaptation of processes.
- Provision of a comprehensive range of administrative support.
- Day to day supervision and management of school support staff, including monitoring workloads and performance.
- Support the Head of Campus with the preparation and administration of the budget, undertaking day to day financial activities.
Monitor and provide advice to the Head of Campus on facilities and ground maintenance
You will need to:
- Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, empathy, self-awareness and the ability to build trust when dealing with sensitive situations
- Be adaptable and flexible and understand the complexities of working in a remote location
- Be able to work with First Nations People, understanding cultural norms and value
- Be a strong communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills
- Have exceptional time management and record keeping skills
- Have previous experience relevant to the role
Other conditions to consider:
- Week 4 - Week 9 Term 2, accommodation will be in a shared government house - own bedroom, share bathroom. No allowances will be claimable for this time. For week 10 Term 2 - end Term 3 you will move into private accommodation.
- No rent is payable during your stay when in the government housing or when house sitting in private accommodation.
- You must however pay electricity during the time you are in private accommodation but do not have to pay electricity in the shared government housing.
- No allowances are payable during your stay in shared housing or in private accommodation (except on approved work-related travel).
- Private accommodation is fully furnished and up to 3 suitcases of personal clothes/items are allowable.You must be willing and able to look after a much loved pet cat in the private accommodation as there is no pet sitting option available on Thursday Island.
