About us:

The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service Public Health Unit (CQPHU) is responsible for maintaining preventative population health services to a population of ~250,000 people in the areas of communicable disease control, environmental health and public health risk assessment and provides Public Health advice to the Central Queensland and Central West Hospital and Health Services.

About the role:

  • The purpose of this role is to provide specialist public health medicine expertise and leadership to the CQPHU in the delivery of high-quality communicable disease surveillance, prevention and control; Human Biosecurity and health protection activities; environmental health programs; public health risk assessment; education and research; and public health advisory services.
  • Provide professional leadership to the medical staff within the Central Queensland Public Health Unit including the management of the performance planning and appraisal system for medical staff within the Division.
  • Oversee and participate in all aspects of immunisation program coordination, including training and updating vaccine service providers, monitoring immunisation rates, providing expert advice to vaccine service providers and participating in advocacy, research and strategies to maintain and improve community acceptance of immunisation programs.
  • Liaise with other government and non-government agencies and the private sector (particularly medical practitioners) to promote understanding of and responsiveness to public health issues and to facilitate effective collaborative programs.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia is mandatory for this position.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) is mandatory for this position.
  • Registrable as a specialist in Public Health Medicine with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is mandatory for this position. Applicants that are approaching completion of their Fellowship are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Maintenance of currency in public health medicine including fulfilling any specialist College and national registration authority (AHPRA) requirements such as Continuing Professional Development.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $550,085 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $216,643 - $251,642 p.a. (L18 – L24)
  • A salary rate between $259,072 - $274,678 p.a. (L25 – L27)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
