The Role
As the Principal Financial Analyst in Financial Analysis and Advice, you will be contributing to the continuous development of an overall risk framework to support the ongoing sustainability of Councils. Your team is responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and advising on the financial performance of Queensland councils and leading assurance, performance analysis, data management for Local Government Division.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepare timely and accurate advice on the financial and non-financial performance of councils to assist in the development of strategies and approaches to identify and address sustainability constraints and risk.
- Undertake systematic collection, research, analysis, and interpretation of complex data gathered from Queensland Local Governments and other sources, and actively monitor the quality of data held in the Department's systems to ensure accuracy.
- Ability to analyse council information to proactively identify transactional issues, risks, develop and recommend solutions.
- Contribute to the development of the data management strategy, including continuous data improvement.
- Design and develop reports using departmental tools such a power BI and Excel.
- Contribute to the Division's outcomes by participating in the identification of emerging issues and implementing improvement processes by planning and promoting a co-ordinated approach to activities across the Division.
- Liaise, consult, and negotiate across all areas of the department or divisional staff to obtain or provide relevant and timely information.
- Contribute to the achievement of the Divisions outcomes by undertaking an active role in developing and maintaining appropriate LGD business procedures to improve and/or implement new business processes across the division to promote an aligned co-ordinated approach.
- Prepare, review, and provide quality assurance on financial and non-financial information (including outgoing correspondence, briefs, and reports) to advise the Department and make recommendations on key issues, ensuring that accuracy, timeframe, and departmental standards are met.
- Positively contribute to the team environment by committing to continuous improvement, promoting collaboration, and focusing on organisational objectives.
About You
- Proven experience in financial analysis, risk identification and solutions focussed outcomes.
- Experience with or within the local government sector would be highly regarded.
