Principal Conservation Officer

This position is within the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P) State Planning Team and will lead the information management function to support the effective planning and management of Queensland’s terrestrial and marine protected areas and State forests. The role is critical in ensuring the integrity, quality, and accessibility of environmental data and systems that underpin the Values Based Management Framework (VBMF) and other strategic planning processes, while also driving innovation and continuous improvement in information management practices.

In this role, you will apply your expertise in environmental information management to develop and implement policies, processes, and standards that ensure effective system use, data governance, and compliance. You will work collaboratively with application managers, system vendors and data managers from other teams to maintain and enhance information management systems, to ensure these systems meet the evolving needs of the Department. Your strong analytical and problem-solving skills will enable you to manage data quality, analyse complex datasets and deliver actionable insights through high-quality reports and data visualisations.
You will also demonstrate leadership and communication skills by providing training and guidance to internal users, consulting with stakeholders, and fostering collaboration across teams. Additionally, you will lead strategic projects to implement new systems, improve data quality, develop innovative solutions and support the Department's broader goals, using your project management and organisational capabilities.
This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of information management principles, data governance, and system integration - particularly within an environmental field. Your ability to think critically, adapt to changing priorities and build positive relationships with stakeholders will be key to your success in this position.
