About the role

Permanent full time opportunity to provide culturally sensitive social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a mental illness. The role supports consumers, their families and communities through direct care coordination, works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary mental health team, and contributes to triage, assessment and co‑case management. The position also provides cultural knowledge and advice to inform culturally safe assessment, treatment and recovery‑focused mental health services.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • High level knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols, and history, as well as demonstrated experience in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Utilises cultural assessments and interventions to contribute to mental health early intervention and relapse prevention strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, including brief interventions to inform mental health and social and emotional wellbeing care and transitional care pathways.
  • Work within a Recovery framework to support the muti-disciplinary team to enable the provision of culturally safe mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to assist in meeting the individual needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a mental illness who may have a co-occurring substance abuse problem and who are homeless.
  • Contribute to the understanding of individual cases by facilitating culturally appropriate assessment and assisting with interpretation of information from a cultural perspective, including the provision of co-case management.
