Principal Project Officer

The Principal Project Officer supports the planning and delivery of remediation works for abandoned mines across Queensland. Working closely with technical specialists and the Project Manager, the role provides environmental and engineering support, undertakes field work, leads technical reviews and contributes to project, risk and stakeholder management. This role suits someone experienced in complex environmental or mining projects.

The Georesources division capitalises on Queensland’s minerals, coal, petroleum and gas resources. Mining is the number one wealth generating sector in the state and the work done in this division plays a key role in regulating the resources sector, while also supporting industry development and sector growth. This role is part of the Technical Services, Georesources team and contributes to the management and remediation of abandoned mines across Queensland. The role supports project progression under the Department's Project Management Framework and focuses on risk management, technical assessment and stakeholder engagement for complex mine remediation activities.

You will also undertake field work, support the supervision of contractors, and incorporate project and operational risk management into work planning. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

Success in this role looks like working collaboratively with multidisciplinary specialists, applying strong technical judgement, contributing to end to end project delivery, and ensuring that field and technical activities meet safety, quality and contractual requirements. You will apply sound analytical skills, demonstrate initiative and provide timely, credible advice to inform project decisions and deliver effective remediation outcomes.

    o Experience supporting complex mining, civil or resource remediation projects through collaboration with technical specialists, project managers and senior leaders.
    o Demonstrated contribution to end-to-end project delivery, including project planning, scoping, budgeting and supporting procurement and contract management activities.
    o Strong technical and advisory capability, including interpreting environmental and engineering information and overseeing consultants and contractors in line with HSEMP and contractual requirements.
