Do you have a passion for accuracy, language and the public record? Are you seeking a highly specialised role that directly supports parliamentary integrity and democratic processes?
The Parliamentary Reporting and Broadcasting Service (PRBS) is seeking a skilled Reporter to join its professional team. In this role, you will use high‑speed mechanical shorthand and Computer Assisted Transcription (CAT) technology to produce accurate and authoritative transcripts of proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, Parliamentary Committees and other parliamentary events. Your work will contribute to the official Record of Proceedings and support parliamentary and judicial processes.
Key Objectives
- Accurately record and report parliamentary proceedings using mechanical shorthand and CAT technology.
- Produce high‑quality edited transcripts in accordance with editorial standards and timeframes.
- Uphold the integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of the parliamentary record.
Your Role
- Record and report proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, Parliamentary Committees and other events.
- Edit and finalise transcripts to required editorial and accuracy standards.
- Record and report committee hearings outside Brisbane using portable recording and log‑noting equipment.
- Assist with training and development of new reporters.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of transcript production processes and software use.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the Chief Reporter, including assisting with audio‑visual broadcasting.
Operational Requirements
- Ability to work additional and late hours during sitting weeks.
- Availability to work extended hours during Budget and Estimates proceedings.
What We're Looking For
- Associate Diploma of Court and Parliamentary Reporting or similar qualification; CAT experience highly regarded.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook and document management systems (e.g. Objective).
- Excellent English language skills with strong editorial judgement.
- Sound knowledge of Queensland and Australian political and current affairs.
- Experience with transcript production software such as Case CATalyst.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines independently.
- High level of discretion and commitment to confidentiality.
