The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our Governance Branch as the Executive Director (Strategic Communications). This exciting role offers the opportunity to lead the Strategic Communication Unit (SCU) in delivering innovative, inclusive and impactful communication strategies that align with TMR's goals and enhance its brand and reputation.
The SCU plays a vital role in managing internal and external communications, safeguarding TMR's reputation and ensuring alignment with Queensland Government policies and TMR brand values. The unit also provides high-level strategic advice to the Director-General and the Minister's Office, ensuring messaging and communication initiatives are consistent, effective and aligned with government priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Executive Director (Strategic Communications), you will:
- Lead, develop and execute accessible and inclusive communication and media strategies that support TMR's organisational goals and enhance its brand reputation and awareness.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with ministerial, internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of communication products and services. This includes crisis communication, ministerial briefings, media issues management, brand identity and messaging.
- Provide high-level advisory services as a strategic business partner and head of discipline to the department's Director-General, Deputy Director-General (Corporate), Executive Leadership Team and the Minister's Office. Ensure messaging and communication initiatives align with departmental and whole-ofgovernment brand identity and strategic objectives.
- Foster a culture of well-being, engagement, innovation and excellence by mentoring and guiding a high-performing team.
- Oversee and lead the performance and strategic direction of the SCU, ensuring resources are managed effectively to deliver high-quality communication services and outputs that advance TMR's priorities.

This role encompasses leadership of the following key function areas:
- Marketing and Communication: Including Marketing and Communication, Stakeholder Engagement, Organisational Communication and Creative Services.
- External Affairs: Covering Media, Social Media and Digital Content.
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record in leading large, multi-disciplinary communication teams. You will have exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including senior executives, government officials and external partners. Your expertise in crisis communication, media management and innovative marketing campaigns will be critical to your success.
You will also demonstrate:

- A deep understanding of government communication policies, brand management and strategic messaging.
