About the Division
The Resilience and Recovery Division supports building a stronger, safer and more resilient Queensland through foresight, collaboration and informed action. Guided by a forward-thinking approach, we harness insights into emerging risks, challenges and trends to shape QRA's strategy and decision-making processes. Our division also ensures that Queensland's disaster recovery and resilience policies and programs reduce risk, increase resilience and improve preparedness for future disasters.

About the Team
The Hazard and Risk unit leads the development of the disaster risk management approach in Queensland, by ensuring government and communities have access to scientifically informed, reliable hazard and risk information, management processes and products that is fit for purpose and supports integrated disaster risk reduction and management practice. The unit consists of Flood Risk Management, Geographical Information Systems and Disaster Risk Management teams.

About the Roles

2 Senior Advisor positions are available: one for a period of 12 months and one until 30 December 2026.

4 Program Officer positions are currently available until 30 December 2026.

All positions are Fixed-term Temporary positions tied to an extraordinary requirement for disaster recovery and resilience efforts in response to recent disaster seasons with joint Commonwealth and State funding or temporary State funding.

As a Senior Advisor, Flood Risk Management, you'll contribute to the development of natural disaster risk management policies, plans, guidelines and tools to achieve the objectives of the Queensland Strategy for Disaster Resilience and the Queensland Flood Risk Management Framework.

As a Program Officer, Flood Risk Management, you'll provide technical advice and support for the successful delivery of flood risk management projects as part of a team that helps to build the resilience of flood impacted communities and leave an enduring legacy for flood risk management practice in Queensland.

These roles:

  • Provide accurate and clear advice to colleagues, senior management team and key project stakeholders on strategic and operational matters and project delivery mechanisms in relation to, disaster risk management and resilience.
  • Prepare timely and accurate briefings for executive leadership, partner agencies and state and national committees.
  • Support the team in daily activities and provide project management assistance across resilience projects to ensure project milestones are achieved
  • Undertake research and engagement on cross-jurisdictional approaches to disaster risk reduction, seeking to identify emerging best practice.
  • Liaise with and respond appropriately to internal and external stakeholders on matters that relate to disaster risk management and resilience.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings and events from relevant industry and community organisations and incorporate learnings into QRA's flood risk management programs and projects.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver effective oral and written communication and confidently present messages in a clear, concise, and articulate manner.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records that contribute, ensuring that all corporate information is captured within the QRA's business systems.

QRA's workforce is agile and ready to respond quickly to support disaster priorities. You may have the opportunity to undertake other temporary duties or work in alternative locations to support impacted communities.
