About us
With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).

The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people.

The Role
In the role of Senior Advisor (Contractor Safety Assurance) you will coordinate safety functions across the Central Queensland Region Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Branch and work with health and safety practitioners across TMR to support the delivery of the divisional model for Workplace Health and Safety (WHS). The role has a focus on monitoring external principal contractors and their health and safety performance on projects where TMR is the client, by providing expert contractor safety assurance advice and support to project and contract managers in PDO.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating a regionally dispersed team of safety advisors to deliver high quality and consistent WHS related services within the Central Queensland region.
  • Ensuring appropriate WHS governance processes are in place and maintained by all WHS staff for matters including but not limited to WHS planning, incidents and investigations, inspections and audits, training, and reporting.
  • Actively contribute to the development and review of contractor safety assurance and WHS content (e.g., standards, procedures, guidance, tools, reports) for the region and more broadly across TMR.
  • Planning, developing, leading, and evaluating WHS projects and strategies to build regional capability, ensuring responsiveness to meet the current and future needs of the region and best practice WHS principles.
  • Providing expert advice to the Regional Leadership Team and relevant stakeholders on workplace health and safety and contractor safety assurance activities, including driving the development of skills, capabilities and understanding within this area.
  • Preparing high-quality written documentation such as reports, briefing notes and other correspondence for the Regional Leadership team and other stakeholders on a range of WHS matters.
  • Representing the region on committees and working groups and in other situations relevant to the position and progressing WHS related matters.
  • Working collaboratively with peer roles and functional leads for WHS in a matrixstyle arrangement.
  • Maintaining a strong working knowledge of WHS legislation, Australian and International standards, certification, and accreditation criteria, TMR WHS policies, procedures, standards, guidance, and tools including the identification and effective management of principal contractor safety performance issues and opportunities on construction projects.
  • Leading and supporting workplace visits, inspections, and audits at principal contractor workplaces to support TMR project teams in maintaining an awareness and understanding of principal contractor systems and risk management controls, including the review, understanding, and monitoring of improvement actions.
