About Legal Aid Queensland

Legal Aid Queensland's vision is to be a leader in a fair justice system where people are able to understand and protect their legal rights. Our purpose is to provide quality, cost effective legal services to financially disadvantaged people throughout Queensland.

We embrace diversity, flexibility, learning and continuous improvement to deliver quality legal services. The work is challenging but rewarding - and that is why staff wellbeing and work/life balance are a top priority for us.

About the role

In this prominent leadership role, you will play a critical part in shaping the future of family law services in Queensland. As the Director of Practice Management, you will oversee the governance and operational management of a large and complex multi-disciplinary family law practice.

Your expertise in managing conflict compliance and handling sensitive matters will be instrumental, as you lead the management and coordination of Legal Aid Queensland's conflict of interest policy in your role as Conflict Compliance Officer. This will include ensuring best practice through the implementation of robust information barriers and risk-based file review strategies.

You will drive key strategic initiatives, contributing to the development of policies, procedures, and reforms that enhance service delivery for individuals and families facing family law and related issues.

By providing expert leadership, you will inspire and support Legal Aid Queensland's talented team of lawyers and support staff to achieve their full potential. This includes managing the continuing professional development of staff, organising targeted training sessions, and coaching emerging talent through programs like the Graduate Lawyer Program.

You will also play a pivotal role in delivering national and state significance training, such as the National Legal Aid Independent Children's Lawyer Phase 2 training and associated Legal Aid Queensland programs.

Representing Family Law Services across internal and external forums, you will advocate for excellence in family law practice and ensure the organisation's contributions to law reforms and policy discussions remain impactful.

Through your efforts, you will elevate Legal Aid Queensland's reputation as a leader in promoting social justice and supporting those most in need.

About you

  • A proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary teams within family law or related fields.
  • A deep understanding of trauma-informed practice and the complexities of family law matters, including child protection, parenting issues, and domestic violence cases.
  • Confidence in managing conflicts of interest, ethics, and confidentiality in legal practice.
  • Stellar communication and relationship-building skills to represent LAQ effectively across internal and external forums.

  • Flexible working hours
  • Study leave for approved work-related courses.
