Your new opportunity
The Actuary provides high-level actuarial support, analysis and advice across a broad range of general insurance areas, including the Queensland Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Scheme, the Nominal Defendant Fund, the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland and the Queensland Government Insurance Fund. The role provides authoritative advice in relation to significant long-term liabilities and in activities to mitigate the risk to the Queensland Government of CTP insurer insolvency.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide actuarial services and advice regarding the Government's general insurance and disability schemes and regulated private sector schemes, with the ability to advise on “non-standard” actuarial matters as required.
  • Communicate the results and implications of complex actuarial analysis to stakeholders at all levels, including technical experts, Senior Executives, and Risk, Governance and Advisory Committees of various Government agencies and schemes.
  • Build and maintain strong and effective working relationships across Queensland Government departments and agencies, other State and Federal Government agencies, Insurers, external actuarial providers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic direction, coaching, mentoring and guidance to both the small professional team within the Office and to the data analytics teams of our key clients

What experience you will bring:
You will need to demonstrate outstanding judgement, high-level integrity, ethics and probity, strong agility to adapt to a constantly changing environment, a strong achievement orientation, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

You will have:

  • Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute, with specialisation in General Insurance sufficient to provide actuarial advice in accordance with the Actuaries Institute Code of Conduct
  • Recognition as an expert actuarial advisor in General Insurance
  • Comprehensive understanding of actuarial modelling tools
  • Strong and effective written and oral communication skills to all stakeholder levels
  • The ability to understand and manage the nuances of public and private sector insurance schemes and Government policy issues.
