About us
With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).

The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. Its landscape ranges from beautiful coastal areas adjoining the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests to the rugged outback with breathtaking rock formations. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people.

The Role
In the role of Principal Surveyor you will manage the Geospatial team comprising Survey, Geographic Information Systems and Asset Management.
You will coordinate and manage projects to ensure services meet all objectives through the phases of engineering project cycles of planning, designing, constructing and managing the road network.

Accountabilities include:
• Develop and manage the delivery the District's survey program, ensure maintenance of the spatial information memory and provide expert professional, technical and administrative advice
• Lead and manage the delivery of the district's Geospatial (Survey, GIS & Asset Management) program and resources.
• Source and maintain an adequate program of works to ensure business sustainability and continuity.
• Prepare and manage briefs and specifications, call tenders, evaluate offers and award contracts, and contract manage contestable spatial projects.
• Review and report on the appropriateness of survey and geospatial information given on plans for the setting out of works and land acquisitions, where requested.
• As a member of the Spatial Sciences Occupation Group, provide leadership, coordination of business activities and direction to develop the Spatial Sciences discipline of Transport and Main Roads.
• Work in collaboration with other Technical Services disciplines and members of the PDO team.

Mandatory Qualifications
• A minimum a 3-year degree in Surveying from a recognised tertiary institution, or a qualification that is acceptable for registration as a surveyor/surveying graduate with the Surveyors Board of Queensland (SBQ)
• Registration as a Surveyor with the Surveyors Board of Queensland (SBQ) is mandatory for permanent appointments.
• Engineering or Cadastral Endorsement by Surveyors Board of Queensland (SBQ).
• Current holder of a 'C' class driver's licence.
