About us: 

Cairns Skills Centre is located at Cairns Hospital within the Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research Unit (NMERU). It is a CHHHS-wide resource dedicated to improving patient outcomes through the delivery of high-quality, scenario-based simulation education and clinical skills training for healthcare professionals and students across Far North Queensland. The Centre provides a safe, supportive learning environment that promotes hands-on experiential learning, with a focus on developing technical clinical skills, communication, situational awareness and effective teamwork. The Centre comprises three state-of-the-art simulation rooms, a range of additional education spaces (including a dedicated CPR training room), and access to contemporary training equipment such as high-fidelity manikins and part-task trainers. The Centre is supported by an extensive interdisciplinary faculty of skilled clinicians, educators and facilitators, and provides governance, support and guidance to six smaller ‘Pocket Centres' across CHHHS.

About your role:

  • Provide professional leadership and business management in the operational oversight of the Cairns Skills Centre, including responsibility for day-to-day operations and workforce management, and work collaboratively with the Nursing Director to ensure alignment with strategic direction.
  • Apply the principles of succession management and mentoring to support team members' ongoing professional development and career progression, fostering a positive and effective workplace culture.
  • Participate in and lead research activities where appropriate and relevant to the role and service priorities.
  • Use effective communication, consultation and negotiation skills to engage internal and external education stakeholders to support the delivery of high-quality interdisciplinary simulation-based education and clinical skills training that meets the operational needs of the organisation.
  • Use data management systems to monitor and report on service activity and performance to support the delivery of quality and cost-effective services and to inform service delivery, service design and continuous improvement.
