The Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Services are seeking a Peer Worker - Advanced to join them. In this role you will be demonstrating knowledge of recovery principles and strength-based approaches in working with consumers who have mental health issues. You will be working and communicating with multidisciplinary teams to plan and deliver psycho education programs and groups to mental health services consumers. You will be responsible for supporting and mentoring the AO3 Peer workers.

About us:

The Mental Health and Alcohol, and Other Drugs Service (MHAODS) is responsible for delivering mental health and AOD services throughout the CHHHS and for supporting other mental health and AODS in the surrounding Hospital and Health Services of Cape York, Torres Strait Northern Peninsula Area. Its primary objective is to ensure access to a comprehensive range of treatment and support services, clinical treatment, rehabilitation, disability support, as well as early intervention, and mental health prevention and promotion. The Mental Health and AOD Service (MHAODS) is designed and delivered with the consumer, carers, family, and local communities' at the centre of everything we do. 

The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

About your opportunity:

  • In this position you will be utilise group work skills in delivering support groups, psycho education programs, and participate in facilitating peer-based consumer support groups.
  • Connect to consumers, carers and staff providing a positive example of recovery and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing their mental health.
  • Serve as a positive role model to consumers and staff and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing their mental health.
