The role 

The Service Design Practice Lead is accountable for the leadership, governance and effective operation of the service design and lifecycle practice across the service portfolio.

The role is the recognised lead for Service Design and Lifecycle Management providing practice leadership, decision support and quality assurance across service design and architectural activities.

The Practice lead oversee the development and assurance of artefacts produced by Service Architects and the Service Lifecycle and Assurance Specialist, ensures effective pipeline planning and prioritisation and maintains oversight of financial recoveries associated with Service Design activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as the recognised practice lead and primary contact point for the Service Design and Lifecycle Management team.
  • Plan, prioritise, and manage the Service Design pipeline of work, ensuring visibility of demand, capacity, dependencies and sequencing across activities.
  • Provide guidance and quality review of artefacts and deliverables produced by Service Architects, ensuring alignment to agreed standards and design principles.
  • Facilitate customer and stakeholder communication for the Service Design stream, ensuring engagement is timely, clear, and consistent.
  • Oversee and support completion of financial recoveries and cost allocations associated with Service Design activities.

About you

We are searching for someone who:

  • Proven experience in developing, contributing to and review architectural strategies, designs and roadmaps that meet the strategic requirements of the health system (SFIA Skill: STPL – Enterprise Architecture level 6)
  • Ability to provide specialist advice relating to service architecture, influencing the broader architecture, ICT planning and any investment activities (SFIA Skill: CNSL – Consultancy level 5) (NHS: Effective and strategic influencing)
  • Proven ability to develop and manage stakeholder relationships, facilitate open communication, and capture and disseminate information (SFIA Skill: RLMT – Stakeholder relationship management level 5) (NHS: Collaborative working)
  • Proven ability to provide strategic direction that enables the delivery of sustainable, value for money, fit for purpose services and technologies that meet the business requirements of customers and service delivery (SKIA Skill: ITSP – Strategic Planning level 5)
