The Boating Infrastructure Team, within Maritime Safety Queensland’s (MSQ) nMaritime Assets and Infrastructure (MAI) section, delivers and manages boating infrastructure, and provides centralised expertise to MSQ’s Waterways Management section in the delivery and management of state-wide aids to navigation within the five MSQ regions.

In the role of Principal Advisor (Aids to Navigation), you will:

• Act as asset owner within the state-wide Asset Management Framework for the provision of aids to navigation, including reporting to MSQ senior management on the condition of the state-wide aids to navigation network.
• Coordinate and provide specialist advice on program activities related to the maintenance, renewal and enhancement of Aids to Navigation infrastructure, including consideration of funding priorities and asset lifecycle impacts.
• Provide specialist input and guidance into project management activities related to Aids to Navigation infrastructure, including providing guidance to MAI's engineering project delivery team(s).
• Provide specialist technical leadership and coordinate delivery of major Aids to Navigation upgrades, new installation, and maintenance.
• Engage with and coordinate consultants and contractors to obtain specialist technical advice supporting the Aids to Navigation function, including advice on system maintenance and the installation and maintenance of statewide major Aids to Navigation.
• Work closely with MSQ's regional Marine Officers and Area Managers to maximise the asset life of aids to navigation, and provide timely advice, documentation and reporting to senior management in relation to the delivery of the program.
• Liaise with Regional Harbour Masters, as required, to inform aids to navigation planning and delivery in line with pilotage and shipping requirements.
• Work collaboratively within the Boating Infrastructure team to support the planning and delivery of the boating infrastructure and statewide aids to navigation programs.
• Review and maintain systems, governance, standards, and guidelines relating to state wide aids to navigation, aligning with the MSQ/TMR asset management framework.
• Lead consultation in collaboration with MSQ regions and other stakeholders, driving a continuous improvement culture to investigate and implement improvements to design for aids to navigation efficiency, asset service life, safety and function.
