This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.
Who are we?
Kowanyama State School is located in the remote Indigenous community of Kowanyama, that is located on the western side of Cape York Peninsula, near the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The School is a Kindy - Year 10 community school with an enrolment of approximately 220 students.
Situated 600km North West of Cairns the community of approximately 1200 people.
Step Into Your Next Chapter:
- Maintain school grounds, gardens, and outdoor areas to a high standard
- Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs and basic handyman tasks
- Ensure facilities are safe, clean and compliant with workplace health and safety requirements
- Assist with set-up and pack-down for school events and activities
- Monitor and maintain equipment, tools and maintenance schedules
- Liaise with line managers and contractors as required
- Proactively identify maintenance issues and report or address them promptly

Essential qualities of the successful candidate:
- Demonstrated experience in grounds keeping, facilities maintenance or a similar hands-on role
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
- Practical problem-solving skills and initiative
- Ability to undertake physical work
- Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain
Please note, there is NO housing associated with this role. You must live in community to be considered.
