In this hands-on role, you’ll contribute to a comprehensive histology service, supporting not only major metropolitan hospitals but also acting as a central referral hub for laboratories across the state. Working within a collaborative team environment, you’ll apply a broad range of routine and specialised histological techniques to both surgical and autopsy specimens. Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability in a range of histological applications from routine tissue management through to the application of advanced methods and technologies including embedding, microtomy, routine special stains and advanced complex special stains, urgent frozen section protocols and specimen dissection.
- Demonstrated high levels of attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks within a histology laboratory.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.
- Proven willingness and ability to actively participate in and contribute to continuing education and other professional development activities.
- Proven ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment to achieve the goals of the work unit including the meeting of critical deadlines.
- Availability to participate in a roster system across the operating hours of the department.
