About the role

Direct the functions of the Metro North HREC including chairing the monthly meetings, reviewing multidisciplinary research study documentation and advising on ethical matters concerned with research across diverse population groups and/or services.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Review low risk and greater than low risk research involving human subjects, ensuring that the rights of research participants are protected, a high scientific and ethical standard of research is maintained and compliance with all appliable guidelines, legislation and policies.
  • Review responses to questions raised on research studies, amendments, reports, and other documentation out of session. Advise on further review by expert reviewers, HREC sub-Committee or the full HREC as deemed necessary on the basis of the ethical and scientific issues raised.
  • Communicate the needs of the HREC, sub-committees and expert reviewers to the Executive Director Research, with the aim of maintaining functions that comply with all relevant policies, guidance, NHMRC registration and the HRECs certification.
  • Maintain close liaison with staff supporting the HREC functions to promote the effective management of the HREC.
