About the work unit / facility

The Townsville Public Health Unit works to protect and improve community health across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service region. The unit focuses on population‑level prevention through communicable disease control, environmental health management and coordinated public health responses.

Key functions include disease surveillance, outbreak management, immunisation support, mosquito‑borne disease control, sexual and skin health programs, disaster and pandemic response, health promotion in remote communities and regulatory public health activities.

Competitive salary and benefits:

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.

  • Salary range: $136,538 to $148,242 p.a. (Nurse Grade7)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • On-call and shift allowances (where applicable)
  • Plus great salary packaging options may be available

About your opportunity

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) at the Townsville Public Health Unit provides advanced nursing leadership within a multidisciplinary team, supporting programs that enhance community health and wellbeing. The role includes strategic planning, clinical governance, workforce development and resource management, with a strong focus on evidence‑based practice and innovation.

The NUM leads coordinated responses during outbreaks and public health emergencies, overseeing surge planning, operational readiness and stakeholder engagement. The position also plays a key role in advancing Queensland Health's commitment to health equity by supporting culturally safe practice and partnering with communities to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other priority populations.
