Queensland Museum (QM) is a statutory authority and custodian of the State Collection, connecting communities through science, culture, research and education. As the organisation continues to evolve, strengthening its commercial capability and financial sustainability, this role has been established to provide dedicated leadership across both finance and commercial functions.

An opportunity now exists for a Director, Finance and Commercial to join the Corporate Services leadership team, reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Services. This is a 3-year contract.

The Opportunity
This senior leadership role is responsible for leading financial & commercial activities across Queensland Museum, ensuring strong governance, compliance and contemporary financial management practices.

You will lead the Finance and Commercial function, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, statutory reporting and financial operations, while driving development and delivery of commercial strategy and revenue initiatives. The role is designed to better integrate financial stewardship with commercial outcomes, supporting QM to operate with greater agility and long-term sustainability.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you'll provide strategic advice, contributing to organisation wide decision making in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Finance and Commercial team to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting and end-of-period processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Maintain strong governance, risk management, and statutory obligations
  • Build and manage key relationships with Qld Treasury, Corporate Administration Agency and the Qld Audit Office
  • Lead and execute QM's commercial strategy, driving revenue growth and business development
  • Uplift financial capability across the organisation through strong business partnering
  • Provide strategic, commercially informed advice to the Executive Director, Corporate Services and leadership team

About You
You're a senior finance leader with experience operating in complex, stakeholder-driven environments such as government, statutory authorities or similar sectors.

You bring strong technical expertise across financial management, governance and reporting, complemented by a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. You're comfortable working in fast-paced environments, balancing competing priorities while maintaining high attention to detail & delivering results.

A collaborative and influential leader, you build trusted relationships and contribute to organisation-wide outcomes through insight, innovation and sound judgement.

CPA qualifications and experience within government and/or the cultural sector will be highly regarded.
